According to the information, there is no law in India regarding the extent to which cultivable land can be kept. But every state across the country has set a certain limit for owning land, so it is not that you can buy 100 acres and 1000 acres of land. But the maximum limit for purchasing land in India varies according to the states. There is no uniform law for owning land in the entire country.
Is there any fixed limit of land in India?-
After the abolition of the Zamindari system in India, the Central Government has given this right to the State Governments. No person in any country can own as much land as he wants. The limit for purchasing land in India is decided according to the geographical location of different states. Each state has set limits for cultivable land. There is no uniform law for this in the entire country.
When did the law come?
The Land Reforms Act 1954 was enacted to end the Zamindari system in the country. After the introduction of this Act, different rules have been made regarding land holding in every state.

In Kerala, under the Land Amendment Act 1963, an unmarried person can buy land up to 7.5 acres only. At the same time, a family of 5 members can buy up to 15 acres of land.

A maximum of 24.5 acres of land can be purchased in West Bengal. There itself,

32 acres of land can be purchased in Himachal Pradesh.

In Uttar Pradesh, a person can purchase a maximum of 12.5 acres of agricultural land.

Why is the law different in every state?
Land Formation Act has been given to each state of the country because their geographical location is different. Swadeshi land, tribal land, Lal Dora land, many types of land are with the government, over which state governments have been given authority.

If we talk about the neighboring country Pakistan, there is a provision for keeping land in the Property Inheritance Act. But like India, here too the rules of every state are different. The situation is similar in Bangladesh also. Even in Bangladesh there is no fixed law for owning land. The laws passed by the British are still applicable in modified form in all three countries. Overall, in India, if you have more land than the prescribed limit, you can go to jail.
