The people of Kerala are going to get the country's first water metro on
Tuesday, April 25. The Prime Minister will give the green light to this
project. The special thing about this metro is that it will run on water
instead of track. A total of 78 boats and 38 terminals have been constructed
in this project, completed at a cost of 1,136.83 crores. This water metro
being started by the government will be eco friendly. It will connect the
islands around Kerala together.
It is planned to run electric boats on 15 routes under this project. It will
connect 10 islands. This route is spread over a radius of 78 km. Special care
has also been taken to ensure that people do not face any difficulty in moving
from one end to the other. Its facility will start daily at 7 am, which will
continue till 8 pm. While the water metro will be available every 15 minutes
during peak hours.
Electric boat has been prepared for KWM i.e. Kochi Water Metro Project. A
special model has been created for this. It will be completely eco friendly.
Efforts will be made to reduce pollution through these boats in Kerala.
Weekly, monthly and quarterly passes will also be made available to passengers
to travel on the water metro. You can also avail discounts on this pass. A
weekly travel pass with 12 journeys costs Rs 180. The pass is Rs 600 for 30
days with 50 trips. A pass for 150 trips for 90 days will be given for Rs
1,500. Passengers can use Kochi One card. Apart from this, passengers can book
mobile QR tickets through the Kochi One app.
Let us tell you that the first route of this metro i.e. High Court-Vipin will
start operations on April 26 from 7 am. At the same time, operations on the
second route Vyttila-Kakkanad terminal will start from 7 am on April 27.
Single journey ticket fare for High Court-Vipin route will be Rs 20. Whereas,
the fare between Vittila-Kakkanad is Rs. 30 will be. It will take less than 20
minutes to reach Vipin from High Court Water Metro Terminal. Whereas, the
distance from Vittila to Kakkanad Terminal can be covered in about 25 minutes.
The project planned for the city of Kochi will not only be used as a means of
public transport, but will also promote the development of waterways. Roads
will also be constructed on the islands where this metro service will reach,
so that passengers do not face any difficulty in reaching the terminals. Apart
from this, these areas will also get a boost professionally.
The boat terminal is divided into three parts based on size and capacity.
Major, Intermediate and Minor Terminals. The Kochi Water Metro Terminal has
been designed in such a way that congestion during peak hours can be easily
handled. This is divided into three parts. Major terminals fall under 1000PHT,
intermediate terminals 300PHT and minor terminals 300-1000PHT based on peak
hour traffic (PHT).

There will be 78 eco-friendly boats to serve the passengers. Of these, 23
boats can carry 100 people at a time, while the remaining boats can carry 50
to 55 people at a time. In addition to these passenger boats, there will be
four boats for emergencies and as an alternative to the main fleet.
