Pathaan is a 2023 Indian Hindi-language action thriller film written and
directed by Siddharth Anand and produced by Aditya Chopra under his banner
Yash Raj Films. The film stars Shah Rukh Khan, John Abraham and Deepika
Padukone. It is the fourth installment in the YRF Spy Universe after Ek Tha
Tiger (2012), Tiger Zinda Hai (2017) and War (2019). It is the most expensive
project of Yash Raj Films.
Yash Raj Films, Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham officially
announced Pathaan on 2 March 2022 at their social media accounts, revealing
the release date to be 25 January 2023 with a first look teaser. However,
Various cast and crew of the film including Salman Khan and Vishal Dadlani
have unofficially announced the film at various occasions before.

Dadlani unofficially announced the film on his Twitter account. He wrote in
the tweet, "No number from the past matters, no number in the future is too
big. The whole world is waiting to watch Shahrukh. More importantly, we're all
working towards a kickass film with great songs." This film is YRF's first
Dolby Cinema release and the first Bollywood film to be shot fully with IMAX
cameras. This will be the first universe entry, in Indian cinema, to feature
two post-credit scenes, akin to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Khan was cast in the film on September 2020. Padukone joined the filming on 23
November 2020 and Abraham joined the casting of the film in June 2021 during
the shooting at Mumbai. Dimple Kapadia was cast in December 2020. Salman Khan
was cast to make a cameo appearance on November 2020, reprising his role as
Avinash from the Tiger franchise. Hrithik Roshan was also cast to make a cameo
in January 2022, reprising his role as Kabir from director Siddharth Anand's
previous film War.
Principal photography of the film began on 17 November 2020 in Mumbai. In
January 2021, filming moved to Dubai. Some of the major action sequences
including a long chase sequence were shot in the same schedule. On 12 April
2021, after some crew members of the film tested positive for COVID-19,
further schedules of the film were postponed. The filming resumed on 25 June
2021. Later, in July 2021, another schedule of the film began. A song was
scheduled to be shot from 7 October 2021 in Mallorca and Cádiz but the
schedule was postponed.

In February 2022, the production moved to Spain to shoot action sequences, in
which, Khan, Padukone, and Abraham took part in. Filming was set to take place
in Mallorca and Cádiz, in south-western Spain. The Spain schedule was
completed in March 2022. Only the Mumbai schedule was left, which the unit
completed in Yash Raj Studios, before calling it a complete wrap.
